I went to the Dead Sea with a group called the Dead Sea Revival Project. We were suppose to go on a dingy type boat out into the Dead Sea to explore sections of the coast. As it turned out the water was too rough to be out on the Sea. So instead we walked along the coast of what appeared to be a small peninsula. In actuality we were walking on various crystals that had at one time been under water. We needed to watch our step to make sure we didn't land on or in a sink hole.
What you will see in the pictures: sink holes (last 2 pictures), close up of salt crystals and other crystals, layering on the walls which shows the water levels over time, stalactites, twig debris that washed onshore, sunrise over the Dead Sea and against the mountains west of the Dead Sea. Note that on the last picture you can not only see a large sink hole, but also see how much the water level has dropped given the difference in terrain of the foreground and background.
