The Avshalom Nature Reserve and Cave is about two miles east of Beit Shemesh. The area is rich in trees, fauna, and animal life, but the main reason to visit is to see the Stalactites and Stalagmites found in the Avshalom /Soreq cave which is about one acre in size. The Stalactites and Stalagmites continue to grow and build as mineral rich droplets seep through the soil down into the cave as can be seen in the picture of the ivory stalactites with droplets at the end of the "stalactite tube" .
This cave was found in 1968 when a crew of workers were excavating a quarry on Mt. Yael's western slope.
